We've got 12 contestants vying to win the finale of TNL Spinoff, but before all that, they need to get through the Knockout Rounds where they will battle it out for the coveted 8 spots in the Commercial and Electronic categories. So head down to Which Way West at Liberty Arcade on Saturday the 30th of July from 7 PM to watch the best upcoming talent in Sri Lanka and prepare to have your mind blown by the amazing feats of mix mastery by our very own. And the Knockout Rounds have officially begun! 30th of July at Which Way West played host to The Spinoff edition where 12 DJs took to the consoles to show the crowd their skills.
The event kicked off with the Electronic category followed by the Commercial category. Check out the video below to watch all the action from a stellar night!
Game of Thrones fans were in for a treat as NJ incorporated the iconic theme into his mix before presenting a whole new side to the epic composition.
Proving that going on second does not mean being second best, Pubudu thrilled the audience with a slick mix that showed off his love for electronic music.
Making us go goo goo over GaGa, Jay presented an eclectic mix that had toes tapping and the crowd definitely responded well to his re-imagining of a favourite.
Catering to the TNL listeners Wasu stole our hearts with a brilliant mix of a Red Hot Chillie Peppers track before transitioning into the next set which replaced funk with thundering beats.
The youngest contestant at only 16 years old, CMB Cruzz kicked off his set with some local flavour which unfortunately did not continue in the mix but we're expecting great things from him in the future.
Rounding off the Electronic Category was Nidge whose set started off with some laid back grooves before transitioning into a multi layered audio experience that had everyone taking notice.
The Commercial Category
The session kicked off with an extremely enthusiastic Beathunter who was raring to go and really believed in audience involvement before spinning some dance grooves.
With an old school vibe that showcased some brilliant hip hop and RnB, Lakshan really got the crowd going with his mix.
Unlike his name, Glitch seemed to have a glitch free performance which we all loved. His blend was pretty solid and he definitely had some wow moments in his set.
He set out to entertain and that he did. With a smattering of funk (Wild Cherry anyone?) and a whole load of dancefloor hits, Shehan had many in the crowd saying "I love this song!".
Proving his mixing and scratching skills are above par Neco broke it down old school with his fantastic spin which was almost too good to be true but a treat to watch.
Ending the night was DJ MCC whose set rounded off a brilliant night of DJ talent with a tight set of classic dance tracks mixed with the hits of the nineties and noughties.
